Your kid's birthday @ Pizza Hut
I was looking for a place to celebrate my son's 5th birthday. Obviously, I had all the constraints well thought out - Low on cost, but can accommodate many guests, decent food and most of all, a place for kids to have some fun. I live in Koramangala, so finding a place which was low on cost was going to be a challenge. I had some 40-50 guests in mind, including about 20 children. I was inviting my son's classmates too, so had to make sure the place was kinda decent enough.
With the limited time that I had, I asked around several places. The challenge was that whichever hotel had a banquet hall, the option to rent the hall out alone was not possible. Banquet halls came free in the hotel, but the price of food was well above my budget. A few of the hotels I checked include Hotel SilicRest, Hotel Elite and so on. The average rates in these hotels came to about 420 per pax (per person). When I checked out other hotels like Shilton Royale and Grand Mercure, they were more than twice the price I listed above. So hotels werent an option. I then enquired about some fancy places like Claytopia which had a package starting at 450 per child and 250 per adult. And the choice of food was also quite limited - sandwich, juice and some basic snacks for the starting package. The only addition was they would give 1 porcelain item to every child for them to work with. Interesting idea, but expensive.
Finally, I decided to check out Dominos or Pizza Hut. I've personally been a PH loyal, so was hoping their rates were not too over the top when compared to Dominos. And yes, to my pleasant surprise, they werent. So here is my post to talk about the great party I had at Pizza Hut and met all my criteria.
So what do you get for a birthday party at Pizza Hut?
1. They have pre-printed invitation cards which you can use to send to all your guests and ask them to RSVP.
2. The Pizza Hut venue does not get charged anything, although the staff they said they generally charge 1500 for the venue. I dont know if I got lucky or they just made that up. FYI, in Dominos, they charge 750 for the party hall.
3.They set aside a separate portion of the venue for just your party, so no other guests are allowed there in that place that has been set aside.
4.They conduct 3 games free of cost - 1. Musical Chair, 2.In and Out and 3.Passing the Parcel. As I entered Pizza Hut for the party, they had already arranged their chairs for the musical chair. One of the pizza hut staff conduct the game, so that takes the tension off your head. The best part is, it is easier for them to tell who is the kid who is actually out and they have a way to make them agree too. They also gave a prize to the kids who won without us even asking them to do so.
5.They give you two packages to choose from - one with return gift or one without it. The former one (with return gift) costs Rs50 more than the latter per child. Assuming you want to give return gifts only to children.
6. Now the important cost element. So, in the month of August 2015, which is when I celebrated my kid's party, they quoted package of 150 per child for 1 cheese margarita (personal pan) + 1 beverage. Add Rs 50 per child and you get a return gift (1 fairly big, red pencil box) along with the food. For adults, they had a package where for 2500, we could order 3 medium size pizzas (from signature, supreme or any other range), 3 plates of starters and 6 beverages. Going by our guest count, we had about 40 guests and were done with the whole party in round about 10K. The beauty is, Pizza Hut was very flexible in us choosing between cheese margarita for the kids or pasta. They were not adamant about only the margarita. Also, the staff helped us decide how many adult packages would be optimal for us to order, given the number of guests we had. So they tried to create a win-win for them as well as for us.
7. They gave a choice between buffet or service. We chose service and they were happy and quick to serve all of us quite speedily.
8. They helped cut the cake and distribute to the our guests.
9. They were flexible to offer part of the beverage as a welcome drink and the remainder along with the meal.
10. And the icing on the cake was the little song they sang - all the Pizza Hut staffs - after the cake cutting. They have a nice rhythm and beat, they clap their hands and do the song which all of us totally enjoyed.
On the whole, the kids had lot of fun, they had lot of space to run around. And they enjoyed the games. Ofcourse, it was a bit noisy and hence perhaps a nuisance for the visitors who were hoping for a quiet dinner in the other side of the venue. But hey!It was our party and we had total fun.
Only thing to bear in mind is, they let you have the party only between 4 and 6 or 5 and 7. Ofcourse, they dont throw you our immediately after the party. But they do have only these 2 slots coz they need their venue fully free during peak hours to accommodate their visitors.
If you are looking for a place to celebrate your kids birthday, I would strongly recommend you considering Pizza Hut. Great place, good food and easy on the pocket.
